Placing Senate Bill 17 in the Context of UT’s History of Integration and Inclusion

History

"With all deliberate speed..."

The University of Texas has a long history of interacting with minority students and groups through legal measures and campus policies. The recent implementation of Senate Bill 17 is far from the first incident of policy regulating issues relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion. These pages will document some prominent moments and figures in UT's history that tell the important story of historically underrepresented students on campus - many whose attendance was legally barred at one point in time. Minority students have always fought to create and maintain spaces of community on campus to foster a feeling of belonging - the university has swung back and forth on supporting these students and neglecting their issues.
